It nearly killed me to write this but I did do it. One writing challenge I do not think I will be repeating is definitely any RP/Fan things =P no offence Jill dear, but it's just too much of a brainkiller for my muse, she just does not like writing them at all (as you have evidenced by how long it took her to get this done). I think she's much better suited to fandom personally. I hope you enjoy it!

Title: Summer Flu
Fandom: RPS
Summary: a request from [profile] jillo_loves_dom who wanted to see herself looking after Dom when he’s sick. Unashamedly cute and fluffy piece but there is some Dom!snark in there so it's not a total squish-fest.
Disclaimer: Dom doesn’t belong to me, and neither does the basic premise for this fic. No offence is intended and no money is being made. Kthx!
Author’s Note: this is only the second RPS I’ve ever done and it’s certainly the only Dom/Fan piece I’ve ever done. Ever. PLEASE don’t shoot me for it.

It was the kind of day where the shade was cool and the sun was warm. It was real birds chirping, animals frolicking sort of weather. All in all a completely gorgeous day – the perfect weather to go on a picnic, surf, or just loll about in the sun with you head cushioned in your beloved’s lap.

And Dom was sick with the flu.

Of all the times to get sick, of all the seasons for him to get sick in, it would have to be mid-summer. He didn’t know anyone else who ever got sick at this time of year except himself. And he couldn’t think of anything more miserable on a day like today than to be stuck inside wrapped up in a blanket and sniffling pathetically into a box of tissues that was almost empty.

Of course there was one saving grace – and that came in the form of Jill. Despite how cranky Dom had been at her not letting him go surfing, she had remained smooth and steadfast as always, insisting that he needed to get better and that she was going to look after him until he was.

“You’re not allowed to go surfing while you’re this sick,” she told him sternly. “You’ll only make yourself worse.”

“No I won’t,” he had pleaded. “Come on Jill, please?”

But she had refused, jamming a thermometer in his mouth and wrapping him up so forcibly in a blanket that he couldn’t have escaped even if he’d wanted to.

“See?” she’d said, waving the thermometer cheerfully at him. “You’ve got a temperature!”

“I feel okay,” Dom muttered, somewhat placated when she leant down to kiss him on the cheek.

“Maybe so. But you are sick and so I’m gonna take care of you, okay?”

Dom had grumbled but grudgingly agreed. He had even conceded to sit and read for a while to keep the boredom away (there was never anything good on the tele during the day – least of all on a Saturday). Being wrapped up like he was however, Jill pick a book for him and then promptly disappeared and Dom somehow found himself poring bemusedly over one of the Harry Potter books. He thought it might have been the fifth one but he wasn’t entirely sure. Either way, he was far too confused over which character was which to get too far into it.

With nothing left to distract him, he attempted to unravel himself from his blankets and sneak outside for some fresh air and a change of scenery from the stuffy lounge room. Instead, he got caught halfway and was forcibly steered back inside again.

“It’s nearly lunchtime anyway,” Jill said as she bundled him back up in his blanket and pushed the Harry Potter book back at him. Dom took it grudgingly. “You want some soup?”

“Ngh,” he agreed, leaning back against the back of the couch. “Sure. Whatever.”

As Jill clattered about in the kitchen, Dom stared morosely at the window through which he could see a delicious slice of blue sky just begging him to enjoy it.

“Bloody sky,” he muttered, contemplating making another run for it just as Jill returned with a mug of soup for each of them. “Oh, thanks love.”

“You’re welcome,” Jill said sitting down beside him and taking a slow sip from her mug. “How’re you feeling? Any better?”

“I feel like I want to be surfing. Or maybe dying in a hole somewhere. That would even be preferable to unprofitable boredom of the highest degree.”

Jill chuckled as Dom sipped at his soup and then yawned hugely, bringing a hand up to his mouth as he did so.

“What?” he said defensively when she continued to grin at him.

“Sorry, you’re just so cute when you yawn,” Jill laughed at him but Dom sighed heavily and she frowned. “Dom?”

“Sorry,” he said heavily. “Just don’t like being sick is all. I get grumpy.”

“Yes well I think we already established that,” she said, slinging her free arm around his shoulders and gazing at him fondly. “But it gives me a chance to take care of you. And,” she added. “You’re fun to snuggle when you’re sick.”

“You’re crazy,” Dom said grimly. “Nobody should want to snuggle with me when I’m sick. I become this horrible moaning, groaning pile of blankets with a runny nose. It’s all rather disgusting.”

Jill laughed again and put her head on his shoulder, squeezing him gently with the arm that was still around his shoulders.

“I’m going to get you sick as well,” Dom said grimly but he put his arm around her all the same.

“Well hopefully by the time I get sick you’ll be all better won’t you?” Jill said and sat up, eyes sparkling. “And then you can look after me instead!”

Dom grinned at her, feeling a bit better. “You can definitely count on it.”

Haven't comment your works for a while, but I've been busy. I've just moved because of my studies but I remember your LJ username so it's easy to access to your page where ever :D Anyway. Congratulations on you winning with "Past, Present & Future", well done and very earned.

About this fic. It was custom made but I still find it really, really cute. I love the sentence: “Nobody should want to snuggle with me when I’m sick. I become this horrible moaning, groaning pile of blankets with a runny nose. It’s all rather disgusting.” because I can hear Dom saying that. So very well made story :)

Fair enough *grins*

Thanks! Pace and I were so thrilled ^_^

I'm glad I captured Dom in this - I'm always exceptionally nervous with RPF so I'm glad this one worked well.

Thank you m'dear!
