I've been remiss in this comment, but you should know that it's mostly because I've been working this fic over in my head--it just hasn't left me, and I've been thinking about the themes ever since! I read all the chapters--one after another--on my day off back on MLK day. Took me 4 hours straight to read the chapters plus the comments! I just couldn't stop! God, I wish it had been done like this! I loved BH/FoB when it came out, but making it a Ten/Rose story would have just been that much better--so I'm so glad you did it!
I was reminded of an old (excellent) PBS series "1900 House," where they took a family and immersed them in the daily life of a typical family that would have lived back then. It was very much like this--the mother and daughters had to get used to no makeup and back-breaking cleaning and food prep and the father and sons had to get used to their lot as well. Needless to say, it was difficult, but in the end they really missed it and ended up incorporating certain things that they'd learned to do as a result of living "back in time," like keeping a garden and sewing, etc. So I really like how you've incorporated Rose's resistance and eventual acceptance of the time and then how she misses it.
Then there's the whole relationship/death struggle... Wow.
I love how this is playing out. I love that she's grieving like a widow and he isn't letting her feel these things due to jealously, fear, whatever. I love that she doesn't find Ten to be "enough" now. It's so human, in fact this whole series is just so human, and I love that! In a way, this also sets up a rather nice comparison to Ten2. Have you ever thought of doing a fic or a series about how AoBH would affect that dynamic?
So. In short: I'm loving this and can't wait to see how you end it! I'm waiting in breathless anticipation!
P.S.: I'm wondering if Rose finds something hidden in his coat...?
