The Time Between remains one of my all time favourites. I just...man I love that fic far too much. It's crazy. I love writing missing scenes, there's so much that we never get to see.
First off - well done for making me really like Jack and Kate again!
LMAO. Trust me, it was hard. Jack and Kate's sections were originally much shorter because I just wanted to get up to Charlie's already! XD but I persisted, went back and fleshed them out a bit more and I'm glad I did because it was nice to go back to S1 Jack and Kate - they were so much more likeable.
Charlie's characterisation just made me want to laugh and cry at the same time. He is such a heartbreaking tragicomic figure right from the start. Just the image of him stumbling and tripping behind Jack and Kate while ceaselessly muttering about all his little hardships...it is SO Charlie and man, I want to ruffle his hair and protect him too. The bit about Charlie's rubbish joke that he's so eager to tell had me giggling, but at the same time my heart was panging because Charlie is so desperate it hurts. And his little sulk over Jack taking the transceiver away from him, again, he is just so pathetically endearing.
EXACTLY. Dom said it himself once, that Charlie is sort of this lovable teddy bear character that you just want to take care of because he's so insecure and messed up. I really tried to highlight that here because at the end of his story he's just as insecure and scared as all hell but he's stopped complaining about it and he just gets on with it. His determination is amazing.
I am half excited and half dreading your sequel. I can tell it's gonna make me cry. You've really highlighted both Charlie's vulnerability and his earnest desire to prove himself in this piece. Knowing what is coming...it's just too sad.
That's the thing about fanfiction - you have an added depth of understanding because you know what's going to happen to the characters, or you know more about their past than original characters. I probably will make you cry =P I apologise in advance. Speaking of which, I really must write the second part...
