I absolutely LOVED this sapphie! I really reminded me of that lovely fic that you did with Charlie/Claire between scenes in 'The Confidence Man'. You are wonderful at these missing scenes fics which focus in strongly on the character's humanity. The detail in this is just gorgeous.
First off - well done for making me really like Jack and Kate again! That is something the show has been failing to do for a long time. They are both portrayed deeply and believably here. You also have terrific physical descriptions.
Charlie's characterisation just made me want to laugh and cry at the same time. He is such a heartbreaking tragicomic figure right from the start. Just the image of him stumbling and tripping behind Jack and Kate while ceaselessly muttering about all his little hardships...it is SO Charlie and man, I want to ruffle his hair and protect him too. The bit about Charlie's rubbish joke that he's so eager to tell had me giggling, but at the same time my heart was panging because Charlie is so desperate it hurts. And his little sulk over Jack taking the transceiver away from him, again, he is just so pathetically endearing.
I am half excited and half dreading your sequel. I can tell it's gonna make me cry. You've really highlighted both Charlie's vulnerability and his earnest desire to prove himself in this piece. Knowing what is coming...it's just too sad.
