This journal is semi-friends only which basically means that all of my fanfiction posts are public as well as some fandom related posts.

If you've come searching for my Lost fanfiction I would suggest making your way over to the userinfo at [ profile] faithandtrust for my master fic list.

Similarly if you're looking for any of my graphics/manips/icons then you'll be wanting [ profile] sapphicons.

If you've stumbled across me via other means and would like to get to know me better then feel free to drop me a line right here! I'll usually add you if we've got similar interests :)

Cheers, Ellin/sapph

I don't recall the last time I sat down to post something on here. My journal says it's at least two years. In that time I've been all over tumblr, had a massive break up, found new love, finished a four year uni degree, had a year off and am about to start on my PhD.

I have also discovered that photobucket have fucked up all of my picture links - for EVERYTHING. So the plan is, slowly slowly, over the next year, to reupload all my icons, re-edit all my old posts and get this place (and all associated journals for fanfiction and icons) looking smashing again.

So. Who is still out there in the LJ verse?

Comment to this post, and I will list five things I want you to talk about. They might make sense or they might be totally random. Then post that list, with your commentary, to your journal. Other people can get lists from you, and the meme merrily perpetuates itself.

1) Do you have any pets?
I've got two cats (Monty and Mojo) a blue heeler/bull terrier cross called Milo and a Pink and Grey Galah named Benedict. We're also cat-sitting Monty's brother at the moment whilst my brother and his wife move into their new house :)

2) Did you take dance/gymnastics/skating lessons as a kid?
I did gymnastics for about a year but I wasn't very good at it and at the end of year showcase I was leapfrogging over someone, fell on my butt and had a damn good cry about it. Now I teach ballet to gymnasts at the same school I used to go to. As for dancing, as you may have guessed by the fact that I teach it now...I've been doing it for as long as I can remember! Tap, jazz, ballet, hip hop...everything. I teach now as well, but I started when I was three-and-a-half. I just came home one day and said to my mum, "Mummy I'm going to dancing on Saturday" to which she replied, "Uh huh. And where is it? How much is it? Who are you going with?" etc. I knew all the details of course, and that I was going with my best friend. And so I went to dancing and at the end of year concert I threw up all the way to the stage. After I went onstage for the first time and came back though I was basically bubbling over, gushing, "MUMMY did you see me, I was on the stage!" to my bemused mother. Since then they have yet to get me off them, whether I'm dancing, singing or acting (or all three). I'm currently doing my Honours in Musical Theatre focusing on movement/dance and music.

3) Do you prefer big handbags, or small ones?
Depends on my mood. I do tend to carry a lot of stuff about during the day so my handbag has to be fairly reasonably sized but at night I quite often take a smaller bag with me if I go out somewhere.

4) What was your favorite cartoon as a kid?
Oh gosh, so many! I watched the Simpsons almost religiously but I think my favourite would have to be Babar, no question. I've been obsessed with elephants since I was tiny and one day when we had to go to the shops after school I missed Babar. Oh my gosh, I cried so much because I'd missed it! My mum and brother were completely bemused :P

5) If you had to watch one episode of Doctor Who 5 times in a row, which one would you pick?
Ooh tough call...would probably depend on my mood but I'd likely go with Doomsday or The Idiots Lantern. Don't know why, I just really love those eps and my brain immediately went to them.

And honestly this not the most perfect D/R vid ever? Apart from the occasional shonky clip quality? Just...the song is beyond perfect, the clip choice is wonderful - the bit where they intersperse Ten's "Just tell her..." speech with their mini fight in School Reunion...fhadjlkfgksd. And the way it all ties back into the idea of "Does is need saying?"

WAGHHHHHHHHHHHHH. Ship why must you do these things to me when I'm meant to be studying?!

Okay, no more procrastination. Essay half done, going to finish it now!

Every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice-versa, the bad things don’t necessarily spoil the good things or make them unimportant.

For those who missed my last post about this, if you can help with the flood disaster in Queensland by bidding or writing in [ profile] waltzmatildah's fic auction - or even just by donating or raising awareness about what's going on over there by pimping it out I would be so amazingly grateful.

I've also just put myself up for bids here - if anybody would prefer to get icons from me instead.

I just...there's nothing else on the news but this flood at the moment and it's only getting worse. There's an area the size of Texas underwater and it's so deep in places that some people are having to duck underneath powerlines as they travel through via boat.

Just, please, please if you can, try to help out.
sapphire_child: (your hand in mine; dw; nine/rose)
So I don't know how many of you are aware of the flooding that's been happening over in the north-east of Australia but pretty much half of Queensland is currently underwater.

My best friend who lives in Brisbane is currently one suburb away from being evacuated but is holed up with all of her pets because she can't leave them and she can't take them with her to a rescue centre. I also just found out that the guys in Queensland who we call up for technical support at work (and various other stuff) have been evacuated from the Brisbane CBD which means my job has just been made like, ten times harder.

But it's nowhere near as hard as what these poor sods are going through in Queensland which is why I'm offering myself up as a writer for the floor relief fic fundraiser over at [personal profile] waltzmatildah's journal.

So please, please guys - go and bid, or offer yourself as a writer if you write fic. This whole thing is such a huge blow - they've barely recovered from the last bad floods they had and it's even closer to my heart being as my best mate is currently stuck right in the middle of it, as is her mum.

Also, I'm considering taking part in the latest [profile] then_theres_us challenge where you write a sequel of one of your pre-existing fics or from an alternate POV and just wanted to put it to my flist...any suggestions? Requests?

I also have fic recs coming up (the cause of my mood) so be prepared.

So the Thornlie Tree Man was just on the news again and I figured, hey, why not share the wackiness with all of you guys?

This bloke has literally been living up a gum tree in the suburb over from mine since early December. Yes last year. No I'm not even kidding. He's campaigning against the council to stop them from chopping down all the trees out on his street. Initially he had a platform up there but was forced to dismantle it. Now he's just living up there. In a tree.

Anyone else had any wacky stuff on their news lately?

So I work in a gym and being the multicultural country that Australia is, I get a lot of people from a lot of different places around the world come through and see me. Like today I had a Personal Training session with girl from Norway who's come over to visit her Aunt. So while she's on the elliptical/crosstrainer warming up we're making small talk and start on about how she's liking Australia and the weather and ra-di-ra.

Her: My aunt says that winter is usually pretty sunny over here.
Me: Yeah usually. We've had a really cold, wet winter so far this year. Crazy.
Her: Yeah! Lol. It feels like I'm back at home. My city is like, the rainiest capital of Norway.

At which point I asked her which city she was from and she told me she was from Bergen.

Of ALL places. God I tell you, I had to try to stop myself from loling.

Me: Oh yeah - I've heard of Bergen (only because I watch Doctor Who...)

Ahhh - television! Even the fictional shows teach me stuff! XS

Was walking past the ABC shop the other day in Carousel and they have gigantic inflatable TARDIS's for sale. Seriously, that's what it says on the box.

They also have TARDIS shaped USB hubs available online that make the "vworp" noise and light up.

*is amused*

I was just in a musical with this kid. He's an amazing piano player and he's frikkin' five. Seriously, go check out the other videos of him. WOW.

Greatest moment ever. I brought my dad's laptop into school to get help with some music for this dance i'm doing and Mr Williams saw my Charlie/Claire background and because I made it kind of deliberately faded out and dark and stuff it was kinda hard to see it but whatever, he asked me, after glancing at it, if they were my family *dies of laughter* so I politely informed him no, they're characters from Lost. Then I nearly died from suppressed laughter.
